Vulcan<\/strong> is a finite element analysis \n(FEA) program, which is capable of modelling the global 3-dimensional \nbehaviour of composite steel-framed buildings under fire conditions. The\n analysis considers whole structure action and includes geometrical and \nmaterial non-linearity within its beam-column and slab elements, with \nfull membrane action in the slabs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Standard stress-strain curves and full thermal expansion \ncharacteristics are incorporated as functions of temperature for both \nsteel and concrete, with uniform or non-uniform temperature \ndistributions. The orthotropic nature of composite deck slabs is \nrepresented using an effective-stiffness concept, and options for \nsemi-rigid connections and partial interaction between steel sections \nand slabs are provided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vulcan software has been developed specifically for the analysis of building performance in fire conditions. It differs from traditional, commercial FEA packages in its simplicity and speed of use. Users do not need to be experts in finite element analysis, and a graphical user interface makes data input and interpretation of results quick and easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
